Many people know of the name Colonel Harland Sanders who started a very famous chicken brand. It was in his gas station in Corbin, Kentucky that Sanders started serving meals. One dessert factory was founded by a couple named Oscar and Evelyn Overton, and it was Evelyn who was baking from her kitchen. Another famous fast food now was founded in the 1980s by Bill and T.J. Palmer. At the age of 19, a very young Bill Darden opened his first seafood restaurant which became famous today. Today, the chicken restaurant that Colonel Harland Sanders founded, has become one of the largest restaurant businesses around the globe. This restaurant can be seen in more than eighty countries all over the world. In Corbin, Kentucky, Colonel Sanders started cooking at the age of forty, for his customers buying fuel in his gas station, and eventually these customers came for his cooked meals. With the expanding demand of his cooked food, Sanders opened a restaurant across the street of his gas station, that accommodated one hundred and forty two people. In order to cook faster, Colonel started pressure cooking of his fresh chicken. He further invented the eleven herbs and spices to coat his chicken, which remains a secret and used until now in all of his chicken recipes. After 1952, the company of Colonel became a franchise. It was in the late 1940s that the first cheesecake shop of Oscar and Evelyn Overton was opened in Detroit, Michigan. But Evelyn closed her shop to become a stay at home mom and just supplied her cakes to nearby restaurants. When the family moved to Los Angeles later, they opened a 700 square foot store as their first cheesecake business. As their baking reputation grew, they purchased a larger bakery while Evelyn continued to create 20 kinds of cheesecakes and other desserts, and these items were sold to nearby states. Today, there are around 150 restaurants of this brand and has proven of the old adage of an American Dream coming true.
